Mini Ironing Table

I love this mini ironing table we made. I found the idea on Pinterest. It’s super simple, but make sure you measure correctly. 🤣 I wasn’t thinking and just measured the top. 🤦‍♀️ Of course I didn’t have enough Insul-Bright to cut a 2nd piece, so I had to wait until we went in town the next day. I used some cotton fabric I had on hand.  It slides nicely under my sewing cabinet as well. I bought the mini iron off of Amazon since the closest JoAnn didn’t have any in stock.

Handmade Baby Boy Gifts

I have a new grandson due in June. As soon as I found out the gender in December, I started making things. My daughter’s baby shower was supposed to be April 25th, but that has been changed to an online party. I bought 2 plastic tubs, one for handmade items and one for purchased baby gifts. This week I have to purchase another tub for purchased gifts. 😊 With this virus, I do miss baby shopping. I have ordered several things through Kohl’s.

I'm looking forward to his arrival. I'm really hoping that this virus is under control by then so I can be at the hospital when he is born. 👶🏻

I found this pattern on a skein of yarn several years ago. It's really easy. 

It's easy to put down and pick back up later.  The pattern is for single crochet. I did so I did double crochet on this one. 

Receiving blankets - double sided flannel, zigzagged them together. 

Fleece blankets - I rounded the corners, stitched 1" in all the way around, then snipped the fringe all the way around.

Quick and Easy Baby Gifts To Sew

I love making baby things and have for a long time.  I have 5 grandbabies and #6 due in June.  I made things for all of them, except for one and she didn't join our family until she was a toddler.  I also make and donate to a local organization.  I met the founder shortly after she started Lil Miracles and have enjoyed watching it grow into what it is today.  They are definitely a positive addition to our community.  When I was younger I enjoyed the more challenging projects.  As I've gotten older, I tend to prefer the quick and easy projects.  If I had the pattern saved, I have linked it below.  Some of these are basic and don't need a pattern.


Here are my go to patterns:


Pee Pee TeePee - They work, but are more of a funny gift for new boy mom's.  :)

Door Latch Cover - These are super simple and a great use of scraps.

Baby Bib - I love this bib pattern.  I'd been searching to something that didn't require snaps or velcro.  This bib has elastic around the next.  Easy on, easy off.  I hate setting snaps and velcro get stuck on everything when washing it.

Lovey Blanket - this is a very small blanket that they can carry around without tripping over it.  I make mine out of flannel.  12" x 12", round the corners and zigzag around the edge.  Quick and easy.

Taggies - I make them either a 6" or 7" square.  I make mine out of flannel, but you could use most any fabric.  I put right sides together and add 2 or 3 ribbons on each side.  Stitch around the edge, leaving and opening for turning.  Press, and top stitch around.

Receiving Blanket - I usually use 1 1/2 yards of flannel, round the corners and zigzag around the edge in a coordinating color of thread.

Burp Cloths - I have 2 different patterns I use for these.  I don't turn them, I make both sides out of flannel, put wrong sides together and zigzag around the edge.  I can't find the pattern that I used for the smaller ones.  There are plenty of patterns on Pinterest to choose from.

Washcloths - I make them 7" square.  I've seen other patterns or 8" or 9" squares.  I use flannel on one side and terry cloth on the other.  I round the corners and zigzag around the edge.

Baby Mittens - I've made a lot of these over the years.  They are great for using up scraps. (pattern I used is no longer available online)

Fleece Blanket - I use 1 - 1 1/2 yards of fleece.  I round the corners, stitch all the way around about 1' - 1 1/4" in.  Then I'll snip fringe all the way around.

Quilted Look Blanket - I use 1 1/2 yards of flannel that has a square printed pattern on one side and a coordinating flannel on the other.  I sew them together, wrong sides together, with a zigzag stitch all the way around. Then, I'll use 3 strands of embroidery floss to "tie" in the squares.

I've also done this with stitching in 1 - 1/14" with wrong sides together, then snipping the edge for fringe. 

Pacifier Clip - You can whip these up in about 5 minutes.  SO easy. (See photo at top)

Fleece Hat - I also make these in all sizes to donate to the local homeless shelter along with scarves. I don’t have a picture of this one.

Handmade Baby Gift

I made these as a baby gift for my grandson's teacher. She is also my middle granddaughter's favorite teacher. Her husband was both of my girls favorite teacher. With all of that, I definitely wanted to do something for their upcoming new arrival.

2 Lovey Blankets, burp cloth, 2 rice bags and mittens. Lovey Blankets are 12"x 12" flannel on both sides.  They are intended for them to carry around in place of a regular blanket so they don't trip over them. 

Door latch cover, tissue cover, pacifier holder and hat. 

2 bibs and an On the Go blanket. The On the Go blankets are for using in the car so they aren't so bulky when covering them up.  They are 20"x20"

Purse Sized Tissue Covers

I love making quick and easy projects!  I've made a lot of these over the years. We had breakfast with my Aunt a couple of weeks ago and she mentioned that she had packs of the purse sized tissue packages everywhere. So, I decided to make her a few covers so she could carry them in style.

I wanted to use fabrics that would fit her life.  She had a horse named Viking that lived to be 39.  She currently has 4 dogs and also raises and shows chickens. I mailed them out a couple of days ago as a little surprise "Happy Mail".

Baby Bibs

I loved making these bibs!!  Of course I found the pattern on Pinterest. I don't like doing snaps at all and Velcro gets stuck to everything when washing, so this idea is perfect!!!  These are for my guys new grandson born on Thanksgiving. I also made a few others that I donated.

The mittens are a super easy pattern as well. (The link to the pattern I use is no longer available)

Handmade Baby Gifts

I love making quick and easy baby items. I typically make them to donate, but rarely post those. I made these things for a friend's daughter that is expecting a baby boy in November.

Baby Afghan - I used this pattern, but did double crochet instead of single

Batman Burpcloth 

Batman Lovey Blanket -  (12"x12") - plain black flannel on the back.  Rounded corners, zig zagged all the way around

Washcloths (flannel and terry cloth) - 7" square, rounded corners, zig zagged around 

Pacifier Holders 

Blanket - 1 1/4 yards of flannel for front (printed) and back (coordinating plain).  Round the corners, stitch 1 1/2" from edge, cut fringe all the way around.  The more it's washed, it will take on the "raggy" look.

American Girl Doll Bath Towels & Wash Cloths

I've enjoyed sewing projects for my granddaughters American Girl Dolls and baby dolls. These were quick and easy. I found the pattern for the towels on Pinterest.  Th E washcloths are 3 3/4" square and I zigzagged around the perimeter.

Handmade Baby Doll Burp Cloths & Wash Cloths

I have so much fun making smaller items. My youngest granddaughter told me that she needed some burp cloths for her baby dolls, so of course I made her some.

*Burp cloths are 4”x9” and flannel on both sides

*Wash Cloths are 3 3/4” square, one side is flannel and the other side is terry cloth. 

I zigzaged all around on both of them. 

Baby Doll Diaper Bag and Diapers

The little girl I chose off the giving tree this year wanted baby doll clothes. I used to sew doll clothes, but haven’t in years. I chose to make her a few accessories instead. Besides the diaper bag and diapers, I also made her some burp cloths, wash cloths (previous post) and diaper wipes. These were a lot of fun to make.

Sleeping Bag Set for American Girl Doll

I finally made a sleeping bag set for my oldest granddaughter's American Girl Doll. These are really fun and easy to make. I found the pattern on Pinterest for the sleeping bag, but made my own pattern for the pillow/pillow case and drawstring bag.

These are a fun little project to make using scrap fleece. I found the pattern on Pinterest.

Poncho Set for 18" Doll

This is another set I made recently for my granddaughters. It's a very quick and easy project. I used 2 different patterns I found on Pinterest for the poncho and hat, I just added the scarf.  It's all made out of fleece.

Scarf - 4" x 24"

Sleeping Bag Set for 18" Doll

My oldest 2 granddaughters, ages 10 and 8 both have American Girl dolls. The youngest is more into them than the older one. I recently made a sleeping bag set for the younger one and will make another one soon. I found the pattern for the sleeping bag on Pinterest, but did the pillow and bag on my own. These are easy and fun to make. I made these from fleece, but you could use flannel ad well. 

Pillow Case - 7" x 8" - 1 edge turned under 1/2", folded in 1/2 lengthwise.  
Pillow - made it out of muslin 6" x 7"and stuffed with polyfil

Drawstring bag - 10" x 32"

Fold in half so it measures 10"x16", right sides together 

Stitch the sides using a 5/8" seam allowance 

Fold the top down 2-3" (make sure your side seams are open flat)

Sew a casing wide enough for your ribbon or cording

Use a seam ripper to open your side seams between the casing

Run your ribbon or cording through

Doggy Sleep Sack

One of Rosie's favorite things to do is to burrow in a blanket. Fleece blankets are her favorite. I saw a pattern for a sleep sack on Pinterest. I had not heard of them, so I looked up more patterns until I found one I liked. It was fairly easy to make and she loved it. I need to make her a lighter weight one for summer.

Girl's Rag Purse

I made this rag purse for my granddaughter for her birthday.  I had taken her shopping earlier in the week, but woke up the morning of her party and decided I wanted something for her to unwrap, so I made this purse at the last minute.

I cut:

• 10 - 4 1/2" squares out of the main fabric 
• 10 - 4 1/2" squares of the lining fabric (both are light weight denim) 
• 10 - 3 1/2" squares of batting
• Handle: 1 -  34" x 2" (finished width is 1")

Sandwich your squares, wrong sides together with batting in the middle.  Sew an "X" in each sandwich from corner to corner.  When assembling your purse, make sure your seams are on the outside. 

I glued velcro on for the closure. 

I filled it with some gum, Tic Tacs, money, lip balm and tissues with a matching cover that I made.  I love making those tissue covers.  Very quick and easy.  Great way to use scraps and add a little extra to a gift or stocking stuffer. 

Americana Door Stop

My bedroom door doesn't want to stay open and it drives me nuts!  I had a stool holding it open and I finally decided it was time to change that.  I searched Pinterest for patterns, as I usually do.  I found several, but this one from Shabby Art Boutique was my favorite.  I made an inner bag out of muslin and filled it with rice so that I can wash the outer bags.  It's perfect!  I made another one just like it to use at my front door in the summer.

Americana Rag Quilt

I love the look of the rag "look".  I've made several purses, baby doll diaper bags, baby doll blankets and a few baby blankets.  This is the first lap quilt that I made.  The worst part is making the cuts on the seams and around the border.  I think it took longer to do that than to do all of the sewing.  :)  I love the Americana look and am very pleased with it.  It needs to be washed a few times yet to look "raggy".   I purchased most of the fabrics at JoAnn's.
